Fourth Time Is The Charm

Sometime you must persevere in order to accomplish your goal.  Yesterday was one of those times.  We set out at 9:30 in the morning with Jake in the truck to a visit one of our favorite places in Charleston - The Swamp Gardens at Magnolia Plantation.  We have gone lots and lots of times and never tire of it.  Also, Jake is allowed there.

This time as we went up to the ticket booth they informed us that in order to visit the Swamp Gardens we would have to purchase a general admission of $15 and then add-on the Swamp Gardens for another $8.  We were not counting on that, only wanted to walk for an hour or so and had counted on just the $8.  We grumbled our complaints and went on our way back to the truck.  Now I have to admit that I know the back way in there as I have been so many times but Kirby is a good citizen and he wouldn't sneak in!  (I have never done it but I do know about it!)

We decided to go to Caw Caw where I had been just last month with my friend Tanya.  It is at the same side of town so off we went....parked and I took Jake while Kirby went in to pay our $1 each - such a bargain!!  That is when we found out that Jake wasn't allowed....but we had taken him before....I guess we weren't legal when we did that.  We broke a rule!!  The nice man suggested that we go to Dungannon Plantation where Jake would be welcomed.

So, off we went in search of a place we had never heard of and didn't know where it was.  We drove and drove looking but we could not find it.  We did however see some new roads and a new area so we had fun with that but poor Jake still hadn't had his walk.

Three strikes and you are out!  NOT!!  I noticed that we were now just 15 miles from Edisto Island and had never been there.  Kirby grumbled but agreed!  Yea!  Another place on my bucket list!

It took some work, lots of yew-turns but we finally found Edisto Beach State Park.  We paid the "reduced because we are old" rate of $6.50 total admission and drove in and parked.  And let Jake out!  By this time the sky was getting heavy, the temperature was dropping and the wind was blowing.  We did a little walk around and found a campground.  Funny - we never saw them before we got the RV!

It is just gorgeous there!  The trees are magnificent and hearing even the small crash of the surf from the Atlantic was music to our ears.  We didn't stay long as the weather was deteriorating quickly.  I would love to go back in a month when it warms up and the trees are leafing.  It was raining and blowing very cold by the time we got home!

Here are some pictures.  Click on them to enlarge for better detail.
