Happy Halloween!

Tomorrow is Halloween and we are having a pumpkin carving contest at work. I decided to enter the contest but then didn't really want to do the pumpkin. Casey to the rescue! Casey came over and helped his Grammy out. I did all the dirty work - you know - the seeds and the cleaning of the inside of the pumpkin. Casey planned his design and then - the execution! We decided that our pumpkin needed hair so Casey tested it out before using it on the pumpkin. We took a break to enjoy a big bowl of Kirby's chili (Ma's Chili)which he made today while working on the fireplace and getting ready to install the new stove. Then it was back to the pumpkin. After looking at the finished product, Casey christened him - "Crazy Bob". Sure hope we win!!!

Kirby's Bread

Well, we ate it! Sorry folks but there are no pictures of the great Sourdough Bread that Kirby baked today. By the time I got home, he had given a loaf to the Shumbies - Casey reporting that it was the best bread he had ever eaten, and our loaf had already been sliced - and I think some was missing from it. OK, no problem, I will take pictures of the sliced loaf. Ah, but the battery in my camera did not agree. It was worn out from yesterday. So, we ate the bread. Sorry - not! It was fantastic Sourdough Bread, I am satisfied and just a little bit fatter!

New Bread Systen

Kirby was not at all happy with his sourdough starter so he has ordered one from San Francisco. He also is tired of all of that kneading. (I thought that was supposed to be the good part - the part that makes you feel good) So, he borrowed Christie's mixer which has the dough hook. He mixed this all up tonight and then it has to sit overnight to be baked tomorrow. I wish I was going to be home to take pictures all the way through - but alas, I must work. So I will let you know if the bread is good, and if the mixer is worth it's weight in gold!

Brendan's Soccer

We went out to Brendan's soccer game today so that I could take some pictures. I don't really have the camera for it but it was fun anyway! It was supposed to be cool and we sat there and roasted. Even Kirby was hot!

Home Remodel

Kirby continues to work on the house in between his ale brewing and his bread baking. Last week we got the new curtains hung and what a difference it has made in the whole feeling of the room. Here is a picture that Christie took when she found the house for us and one I took today. We aren't finished but it is looking better. It was nice then but just not "us".

Kevin's Halloween

My youngest grandson is way out in California and I never get to see him. Fortunately for me, his mother, Lisa, is good at taking pictures and sending them to me. What would I do without internet and pictures of him!? He is 2 and a half now so this is really his first Halloween. He is really enjoying it. They have gone to umpteen Pumpkin Patches and some parties and he has carved his first pumpkin with his daddy, Ryan.

Girl's Day Out

We didn't get to take our walk on the beach - it was raining. And it rained until about 1:00. So, we did another really fun thing and went jewelery making. Then we had lunch and headed for downtown Charleston where we just walked all over the place having fun and being "girls".

Christie and Tanya even look like cousins don't they?

Tanya's Visit - Day One

My niece, Tanya Lamb, who lives in Atlanta (Patti's daughter) came to visit! She arrived last night just in time for Friday Night Cocktails with the Shumbies.

Christie fixed a wonderful dinner - Lasagna and a great italian salad and Kirby made the bread.

Here is a picture of Casey who is 16 now.

And Brendan who is 17.

After a great dinner which finished with a scrumptious pumpkin cake we all gathered again to play "Catch Phrase" which made everyone laugh and laugh and laugh. I guess we all won because we all had the most fun!

"The Girls" plan was an early morning beach walk but we woke to rain so we changed the plan and will go jewelery making instead and then downtown Charleston. More pictures to follow.

Early Morning Walk

It is Saturday and so I set out this morning before sunrise with my camera to enjoy the outdoors. I hit the golf course before the sun was up - it was about 67 degrees and just a little bit of a breeze. Just me and the mosquitos! (And this guy who was having breakfast)

This is a bridge that covers a little tidal creek along the golf course. Of course I try to pretend that I am in a lovely remote area - not a golf course!

It has rained for 3 days and I was lucky that it wasn't raining at 7:00 am. But the raindrops still decorated the leaves.

As I approached all these egrets, I could smell them before I could see them! They are fun but I sure wouldn't want to live near them. (there are some VERY expensive homes right next to them!)

Last spring I think it was, Christie and I were walking here and there was a dolphin swimming right THERE! It was so exciting to me to see a dolphin while I was standing on land! No boat involved. So I always look for a dolphin when I come here but no luck this time. (This tidal creek runs out to the Intracoastal Waterway and then to the Atlantic Ocean so it is not uncommon to see dolphin)

I just couldn't resist this beautiful lichen. I just kept finding things to take pictures of....my walk was longer than usual since I had my handy-dandy point and shot camera.

Can you believe there is still anything blooming? It is October for heaven's sake! But the rain drops on these flowers made them very special!

When I got home and got out of my sweaty clothes Kirby and I went off to Lowes for our regular Saturday outing! Today it was curtain rods for the living room and some wood to redo the fireplace. All the old traditional facing is off and Kirby will redesign it.
It is still a little wet and rainy but I am enjoying it. It feels like fall - especially with football on the TV!

OctoberFest in Savannah

It was that time of year so we met Steve and Mollie at our motel in Savannah, called a taxi and headed down to the riverfront. I think it was even better this year than it was last year because it didn't rain and we spent more time outdoors rather than in the pubs and candy store hiding from the pouring rain.

We toured a lovely old boat - Peacemaker - that was tied up at the docks. It was beautiful and we had to really admire the crew that keeps it up. All that woodwork is a lot of work.

There was German music, beer on the street, free tee-shirts (just had to sign up for something - can't remember what and get a free shirt!) babies and children, old people (us), cute teenagers and lots and lots of dogs. There was pretend NASCAR and Steve had a blast driving.

We ate at Bernie's Famous Oysters - but didn't have oysters. It was crowded everywhere but we didn't have any trouble getting a table or a stool whenever we wanted one.

Oh, and we went to the candy store and loaded up on warm pralines! They are the best in the world. I still can't believe we ate a pound of them! Actually it was quite easy!

Later we had a great dinner at the Outback and then called it a night.

On Sunday we all had to get home - Steve and Mollie had a 5 hour drive again - but we had breakfast and drove over to Turner Creek to see if we could find Len and Ollie. We met Len and Ollie a couple of years ago when we were anchored in Turner Creek and they came by in their skiff with their Pit Bull, Miss Nipps. They were a couple of very entertaining "River Rats" who were staying on a shrimp boat permanently anchored near us. We have had many, many laughs remembering these two characters.

So, we went in search of them and almost found them. The shrimp boat was still right where it was 2 years ago. It was such fun seeing it all again - this time from land.

Then it was time to head back home to reality, laundry and work. A good weekend!!

I have posted more fun pictures on my Picasa Website.
