Fourth Time Is The Charm

Sometime you must persevere in order to accomplish your goal.  Yesterday was one of those times.  We set out at 9:30 in the morning with Jake in the truck to a visit one of our favorite places in Charleston - The Swamp Gardens at Magnolia Plantation.  We have gone lots and lots of times and never tire of it.  Also, Jake is allowed there.

This time as we went up to the ticket booth they informed us that in order to visit the Swamp Gardens we would have to purchase a general admission of $15 and then add-on the Swamp Gardens for another $8.  We were not counting on that, only wanted to walk for an hour or so and had counted on just the $8.  We grumbled our complaints and went on our way back to the truck.  Now I have to admit that I know the back way in there as I have been so many times but Kirby is a good citizen and he wouldn't sneak in!  (I have never done it but I do know about it!)

We decided to go to Caw Caw where I had been just last month with my friend Tanya.  It is at the same side of town so off we went....parked and I took Jake while Kirby went in to pay our $1 each - such a bargain!!  That is when we found out that Jake wasn't allowed....but we had taken him before....I guess we weren't legal when we did that.  We broke a rule!!  The nice man suggested that we go to Dungannon Plantation where Jake would be welcomed.

So, off we went in search of a place we had never heard of and didn't know where it was.  We drove and drove looking but we could not find it.  We did however see some new roads and a new area so we had fun with that but poor Jake still hadn't had his walk.

Three strikes and you are out!  NOT!!  I noticed that we were now just 15 miles from Edisto Island and had never been there.  Kirby grumbled but agreed!  Yea!  Another place on my bucket list!

It took some work, lots of yew-turns but we finally found Edisto Beach State Park.  We paid the "reduced because we are old" rate of $6.50 total admission and drove in and parked.  And let Jake out!  By this time the sky was getting heavy, the temperature was dropping and the wind was blowing.  We did a little walk around and found a campground.  Funny - we never saw them before we got the RV!

It is just gorgeous there!  The trees are magnificent and hearing even the small crash of the surf from the Atlantic was music to our ears.  We didn't stay long as the weather was deteriorating quickly.  I would love to go back in a month when it warms up and the trees are leafing.  It was raining and blowing very cold by the time we got home!

Here are some pictures.  Click on them to enlarge for better detail.

Retirement Soon!!

Just look at that counter on the right of the screen!!!  NINE Days until I retire!  It really is going to happen.  We are going to be, well, not poor, but frugal.  We won't be quite poor enough for food stamps and free cell phones...you have to never work to get that.  Responsible people ....oh, don't even go there, Suzie.  This is supposed to be a happy and fun blog!

So, just 9 days and we will be free!  Yea!

Townkids Together Again!

All the time we were cruising the east coast we were in the company of Rick and Tanya Kidlark and as our friendship grew stronger, we all changed our names to the Townkids.  They have come from Nova Scotia to visit and we have been having such a good time together!  And - I am so busy playing that I don't have time to post.  Gotta go - fun awaits!

Closed and Done

I was just rereading some of my posts and realized that I never documented that our home is sold, escrow is closed and the new owners have moved in!  It was such a relief and an event that I didn't believe in until all the papers were signed.  Afterwards we went out to dinner to celebrate and I swear I just kept laughing. We really are on our way to our new life.  Thank you to everyone who was so encouraging and helped me keep the faith until the end!

The Swing

Right behind our RV is a small children's area.  We love seeing and hearing the children out doing what we believe they should be doing - being outdoors getting exercise.  I needed to feel like a child - but darn - the seat started squeezing my hips and it hurt!  Not made for butts the size of mine I guess!

Day By Day

We are mentally ready to go but I still have until the end of February to work.  We are just enjoying living in our sweet new home.  Here is a picture of Kirby, Jake and Myrt - Myrt is our 5th Wheel, Jake is our dog.  It was a sunny day so we were chasing the late sun to stay warm.  We have certainly adjusted to the small space but I really don't know what it will be like when I need to secure everything for travel.  It is funny, somehow securing things on a boat just became such second nature to me that I never thought about it.  I knew what I had to do.  But a trailer is not like a boat.  A boat is much more gentle a movement.  I think everything in Myrt will be moving and shaking and rattling around - especially with speed bumps like we have here at Oak Plantation! LOTS of them!  I am going to need to do some serious securing soon!
