This is the special time of year when the pear trees still have their blossoms but also have the bright fresh green leaves. So pretty. Isn't spring wonderful!

New Life for Old Tables

I promised I would tell you what happened to the old table. Yes, it did disappear very quickly and we had no idea what happened until we went to The Cave and saw it in the back of Phil's truck. He had seen the table at the curb and just knew it would be perfect for - not The Cave - but Fetch Doggie Day Care! They have a sofa in the waiting area and now they have a wonderful old loved coffee table too! The table is definitely going to have an interesting life with all those dogs around it. And it is very used to dogs so that is a good thing. I think it will be happy and I get to visit on ocassion! Yea!

Mollie's Moon

Yesterday was Mollie's birthday and I missed it. Well, I didn't really miss it because I thought about her, I silently wished her a happy birthday and took a picture of her moon. Mollie, I am sorry I was so lazy and didn't call you. Happy Birthday, Mollie! You are a wonderful friend and I love you!

Georgetown, SC

We first went to Georgetown when we were on our way to Merryland in search of a sailboat - back in '05. It was early morning and it was cold. I remember I had a coat on and we were looking for somewhere to have breakfast. We found a little cafe on the main street and had a great breakfast. The next time, we were in our boat on the way to the Bahamas. (Anchoring in Georgetown is a story in it's own) It was warm and sunny and we fell in love again with Georgetown. We often drive up for an afternoon of lunch, a walk on the boardwalk and an ice cream from the store on the main street of town. If you haven't visited Georgetown and you are close enough to do it, you should. (Of course if you are in Texas, California, England or Hawaii or such - forget it and travel with me as I write!)

We arrived on a cold winter day when most of the boardwalk was "boarded up". We did find Buzz's Roost to be open with outdoor seating which was good because we had Jake with us. (He is our dog). But it was bad because it was cold out! I have to give recognition to this great little place because they let us bring Jake indoors to sit with us while we had a brew and a burger in their warm and inviting little restaurant. Let's hear it for Buzz's Roost!!
As you can see from the pictures below, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Won't be that way in a few weeks when it warms up!

Kirby's Garden

Kirby has decided to build a small garden. (Yes, that is Kirby in the pictures. Silly man!) I think it will be just tomatoes and jalapeno peppers. It is not easy to select the perfect spot for a garden. It must have sun, it must not be a place that the dog will trample (or do other things) and the hose must reach it. He is hoping the rabbits won't reach it too! So, stay tuned for updates!

Wacama Animal Rescue Mission

Ah, cabin fever. I had it bad last week and it just wouldn't warm up and the sun wouldn't come out. It is nice out now but for months it has been winter. I bet everyone reading this will agree. We have had enough! So, I needed an outing on Sunday. Badly. Kirby suggesting taking Jake and going to visit WARM, the animal shelter where we found him. I was desperate and would go anywhere! I was a little hesitant about visiting without calling (we had the wrong number and it didn't work) and also wondered what Jake would think of going back.

We didn't need to worry. They were really happy to see us and especially happy to see Jake and how happy he is. And Jake was delighted to see some of his old friends but mostly he was happy to see Julie, who runs the no kill shelter. As you can see from the photo, there are more than just dogs at this shelter. Jake was very interested in the little lamb.

And there are lots of nice dogs that need a home so desperately. Just look at these two boys....called the velcro brothers as they just want to be together. And these two were part of an abandoned litter found out in the country about a year ago. WARM is the only home they have ever know. Thank god for the fantastic volunteers who walk them and work with them daily. These dogs should have a home like Jake. They really do deserve it.
And that is not all they have at WARM. There are chickens and goats and ducks and - fresh eggs! Yes, we took home farm fresh eggs with dark golden yokes. If you have never had fresh eggs from the farm, you have never had eggs!

This last picture is of where Jake used to live. We didn't take him inside the yard. It must have been a tough life in the cold of winter and the heat of summer. No wonder he is so happy now!

Old Tables Never Die - They Just Get Carried Away

When we were getting ready to leave the boat and move to Charleston Christie knew we had no "stuff" - no furniture or things that fill a home. She was in the habit of walking the neighborhood each day and found us some treasures. Plastic patio chairs that still worked, 2 great dining room arm chairs that we still use at our desk and the best was a coffee table. We didn't have a sofa but by golly, we had a coffee table when we got here and began to set up housekeeping.

I would look and look for a new coffee table but could never find what I wanted. Recently Ethan Allen moved to Mount Pleasant and there was my coffee table. After 2 and a half years I was finally getting rid of the trash coffee table.

On Monday the new table was delivered and on Tuesday the old one went out on the street for the trash pick-up. I smiled to myself as I arrived home from work and saw it sitting there where Kirby had put it out for the trash men. It had served us well. You could put your feet on it, sit on it and you didn't have to even use a coaster. If I had liked the looks, it would have been perfect.

After dinner we gathered coats and hats to go to Casey's soccer game. We walked out the door and couldn't believe our eyes. The old wonderful but ugly table was gone. It went on to a new life. Someone had passed by and just couldn't resist that great old table sitting at the curb. We were cracking up. If only the table could talk! What an interesting life it is having!
